Can you use Freemarker to send transactional emails?

We are looking to use ClickDimensions to send a transactional email to a recipient and would like to be able to include information that is unique to that particular Email Send.  For instance, being able to merge in some standard, structured data such as Transaction Number, Start Date, Expiry Date etc.  In order to ensure this information is unique to the transaction, I'm assuming this information has to be referenced from the Email Send, but all of the Freemarker examples that I have seen to date start with ${Recipient.something}.

Is there a way to reference the individual Email Send i.e. ${EmailSend.something} instead of a Recipient?  Is there more to the Freemarker structure than just Recipient, and if so, could you point me to the documentation or provide some additional detail?

I've read a number of articles on the forum which relate to trying to include information associated with a recipient i.e. include Invoices sent to a Contact, and understand the two options which are highlighted (populate attributes on the recipient or create a connection), but I'm not sure that this would meet our requirements.  If the above is not possible, we would have to implement a separate entity to trigger and coordinate the Email Send i.e. automatically create the email send, attach the contact, create a connection to the record holding the transaction detail, then trigger the send.  Is this at all possible?

Kind regards,

Andrew
