It depends on which method you're using to let people unsubscribe. If you're using a global unsubscribe with the code snippet, then it won't remove them from the marketing list.
If you're using Subscription Management and the Action opt in method, it won't remove them from the marketing list: http://help.clickdimensions.com/manage-subscription-opt-ins-with-an-action/
But if you're using Subscription Management and the workflow opt in method, it would remove them from the marketing list: http://help.clickdimensions.com/managing-subscription-list-opt-ins/
However, in all of the above cases, anyone who unsubscribes should not longer receive those emails (even if they're on the marketing list). Would you mind letting us know which method you're using? We may need to take a look into your setup and double-check everything is up correctly.
